v1.1.2-alpha - Resolving Confusion and Waiting

RESOLVING CONFUSION AND WAITING

CONTEXT:

At the start of last week, we spoke about the following issues:

  1. New players not reading the help pop up that appears at the start of the section so they have no idea what to do.
  2. Waiting it out instead of baiting Chomp into eating the bread they need to get items trapped inside the bread.
  3. Not enough Chomp visual reactions so players don't understand when Chomp sees Cheeky or anything about Line of Sight and how Chomp responds to seeing cheeky since it's not visual.

I worked all week to address all of these concerns live on the Twitch stream, and I would like to thank the community there for giving me feedback on the updates as I released them. A lot of these improvements still need more testing to make sure I have it right but check out the change log since the alpha launch for what we have done so far.

Please remember to check out my game, follow me on Twitch and join in on the community to help and see me work live. I really want to thank the people at Twitch so far for providing me feedback live while I continue to work on bringing this project closer to completion!

I have also just organised my Discord Community so please join and meet some new awesome people! You can also see all community updates and discuss the game there!

Don't forget you can also get updates via Twitter and YouTube too!

Lastly, please consider donating a couple of dollars to support the development of the game! You can do this by pressing the "Support This Chomp 'N' Cheeky" button underneath the game on the game page.

I am always grateful for any kind of support people offer, so thank you very much for your contribution in advance!

CHANGE LOG:

NEW :

  1. Lolly packet and lolly dropping skills - press SPACEBAR after collecting the lolly packet to drop lollies. Chomp will focus the lollies when see and when not chasing Cheeky.
  2. All levels now have a lolly packet the player can pick up.
  3. New helper discovery pop ups when collecting or discovering certain items that have not been discovered before.
  4. Chomp now shows a trail effect behind him when chasing Cheeky.

MODIFY:

  1. Head indicators for Chomp has been introduced and updated to reflect more accurately what he is doing.
  2. The Helper Popup at the start has been culled. It will now only display 3 main important points at the time.
  3. Chomp now stops chasing and starts looking for Cheeky at his last seen location as opposed to just mindlessly going forward until he reaches a piece of bread or the wall.
  4. Modified direction change key combination to SHIFT instead of ALT.
  5. Updated Helper PopUp to reflect the update of the direction change key.

FIX:

  1. Fixed an issue causing invisibility to remain on Cheeky after resurrecting.
  2. An issue causing no OK button to appear on helper pop ups if a helper dialogue popped up after level 1, causing game to freeze.
  3. Some background changes to level testing.
  4. Fixed bug report form so it no longer returns an error after successfully submitting a bug report.
  5. Fixed game freezing issues after sending a bug report.
  6. Fixed screen darkening effect after closing bug report submitted message.

NEXT IN DEVELOPMENT

While I am still getting feedback on the above changes, I am starting to work on the main menu and fixing up the rune and treasure progress indicators (which are currently text right now in the top left of the screen). I believe the menu routine in particular is going to be very important for overall user navigation and the progress indicators really help with the player's experience so I am going to be looking at juicing up that feature and placing it into the HUD soon. This could also mean changes to the HUD.

  1. New menu system to access main menu from game.
  2. New menu option to access previously closed helper pop up information in case the player forgets the information on them after closing them.
  3. More fitting treasure and runes found progress bars.
